Shark Nouveau Noir

Shark Nouveau Noir – Gibson L-5 Acoustic Archtop Guitar / Designed and Created by Bruce J. Kunkel

This hand made one of a kind guitar features a design innovation that I developed. By moving the sound holes outward to the rim I have freed up the top area for greater resonance. The sound holes are also slanted to direct the sound to the player’s ear. There is an additional sound port in the upper bout to produce greater volume.
The top and back are .200” thick and are formed with steam and molded to create the arch. This is a technique I developed that maximizes wood yield. By forming the wood, the long fibers are not severed in a carving process, thus improving sound transmission.
